Grapefruit Paloma Cocktail

Paloma Cocktail Ingredients

A traditional Paloma cocktail consists of tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda. My recipe is a fresher version of this classic combination. Here’s what’s in it:

  • Willie’s Superbrew Hard Seltzer- This is what makes this recipe special because, unlike other hard seltzers, Willie’s Superbrew is blended with real fruit. It’s also gluten-free and low in carbs and calories like you’d expect from a seltzer, but it’s blended with thousands of pounds of fruit and spices, never artificial or “natural” flavors, so there’s no sacrifice on taste.

  • Tequila – Use any good-quality Blanco tequila in this recipe. I like this brand, but feel free to use your favorite!

  • Fresh Grapefruit juice and Lime – I swap the traditional grapefruit soda for a mix of grapefruit juice and lime in addition to the hard seltzer. Along with the grapefruit juice, lime makes this drink deliciously tart.

  • Agave nectar or simple syrupBecause I don’t use soda in this recipe, I balance the sour/tart flavor of the grapefruit and lime with something sweet. I call for a small amount of agave or simple syrup but don’t hesitate to add more to taste.

  • Salt – For the rim of your glass! I like to use coarse sea salt, but kosher salt would work here too.

  • Ice – A Paloma cocktail is always better on the rocks!

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 ounces tequila (your preference)

  • 12 ounces Grapefruit & Lime Willie's Superbrew Hard Seltzer

  • ¼ ounce fresh pink grapefruit juice roughly two juiced

  • ¼ ounce lime juice roughly one juiced

  • additional lime and grapefruit slices for garnish

  • Mint (extra extra garnish)

Spicy Infused Simple Syrup

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¾ cup water

  • 1 thinly sliced jalapeño

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Start by preparing the Spicy-Infused Simple Syrup. Place the sugar and water in a small saucepot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes. Add jalapeño slices and remove them from heat. Let chilis steep in simple syrup until the syrup is cooled.

  2. Drain then refrigerate for up to 5 days. Note: If you need the syrup sooner, place it in the freezer to quickly bring down the temp before draining the jalapeño.

  3. When you’re ready to make the cocktail, place the tequila, Willie's Superbrew hard seltzer, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup in a large pitcher and stir well.

  4. Place the sugar and salt for the rub on a small plate and mix with a fork to combine. Run a lime wedge along the rim of each glass then carefully dip the glasses into the sugar-salt rub until coated.

  5. Fill the cocktail glasses with ice and pour mixture until ¾ full. Top off each glass with grapefruit garnish to serve and additional hard seltzer.
